Recent Charcoal Portraits

Here are a few recent charcoal portraits. At my old art school in Florence initially we spent a lot of time drawing, mostly in charcoal, before moving on to painting. This is a good idea as draughtsmanship is 7/8ths of painting*. I still like drawing my models and feel that drawing is greatly undervalued in the art world
